What exactly is the difference between these builds (thank you, btw!) and the official builds found under the latest-trunk directory?
Thanks,
Neil

Well, these are not trunk builds, but FIREBIRD_0_8_BRANCH builds.
Firebird 0.8 branched a while ago (I think it was Dec. 16th) and these builds represent the current state of developement on Firebird 0.8, while trunk is developement beyond 0.8.
So if you want to know how FB0.8 will look like - grab these builds, if you want to find out what might be in FB0.9, grab the trunk build.

Please post your .mozconfig for the 0.8 branch
MMx2000, could you post your .mozconfig for the 0.8 branch build? I'm still learning about the building process, and reviewing examples are often the best way to learn.

Well, I planned to publish the file with my optimized FB0.8 final builds.
But . . . what the heck. I'll do it now.
The file is probably not perfect, so please provide feedback.
here we go: .mozconfig

Using this one now -- not sure I've got the right version for the G3?
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040123 Firebird/0.7+ (MMx2000)
No problem except back to crashing when the last window is closed while trying to exit, which is an old familiar problem that seems to come and go with all versions of Firebird.
Always, I see the same Exception, Codes and Thread 0 in the logs:
Command: MozillaFirebird-bin
PID: 502
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000014
Thread 0 Crashed:
#0 0x05eec478 in NSGetModule

hi ankh,
unfortunately I did two builds on the 23rd, so I can't tell the optimizations from the UA string. The ones to grab for G3 are those having "ppc", not "ppc7450" in the file name. There is one from the 2nd now (I use that one) and there might me a fresh one again soon. (After I found out that it takes yet another week for the final...)
Concerning the crash: I am not a programmer, so I cannot make much sense of the log snippet. Try a fresh build and, if the problem persists, send me the full crash log by PM.

Oups . . . I did it again!
I played with my GCC 3.3 and out came a fresh nighty:
PPC 2004-02-04-17-0.8 including inspector
Have fun . . . Martin

I just upgraded to this from one of your previous builds. Your builds get better and better. Thanks for your hard work for the community, bud.

Due to a lot of checkins during the past 24h:
Mozilla Firebird 2004-02-05-19 for ppc, including inspector, compiled with GCC 3.3
Have fun . . . Martin
P.S.: Thanks for all the positive feedback! Nice to hear that people out there honor my work!

continued optimization for pbg4
Hey,
I have the same pc as you, powerbook g4 12" dvi running 10.2.8. Please keep optimizing for it; it's a wonderful service you're providing. Are the general ppc builds the best for me, or is it better to use the ppc7450?
These optimizations look especially great considering 0.7.1 keeps shooting up to 100% cpu usage.
Thank you!

AFAIK, you don't need to guess:
just type "hostinfo" in the terminal and hit "enter". Then it will tell you.
In Panther you can also open the "System Profiler", it will tell you, too.
btw: my PB G4 12" 867MHz has a ppc7450 CPU. So why should yours have less than that?

Thanks for your appreciation.
The recent nighties are all optimized for general PPC because I don't really have the time to build two builds per day right now. Therefore I chose general PPC so that more people can use the builds.
I don't know yet if there really is a difference between these two optimizations because AltiVec is probably not used anyway. But that is a different story.
