The Last Best Linux Build (2003-01-16)

Post by David James »

The 20030116 Linux build of Phoenix is the last build in which themes and extensions can still be installed without crashing the browser. Other things like the bookmarks sidebar and the bookmarks manager have also been broken after this build. It is also by happy coincidence the first build in which the new Save As bug has been fixed.

I just put this topic up here to catch queries concerning this problem.

Thanks David. You told me that before, and I've been a happy 2003-01-16 user since then. :)

Could this have also been the last build that actually ran ? My Jan 20 build compiles but does not run at all :(

Does anyone have the source to this build?

can anyone get the mozgest extension to install using this build? I install it and it says it worked, but then gestures is not listed in the installed extensions list in preferences, nor do gestures work. If i try installing again, it says something about permissions denied, as the initial install created files in phoenix/chrome/mozgest with read-only permissions.... any ideas?

Where did you install mozgest from and which version? 0.3.3 doesn't install correctly, nor does 0.3.5 but 0.3.4 does. You can fix 0.3.5 though by following the instructions I posted in this thread:

http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4629

There also seem to be permissions-related problems, though this may have always existed:

I initially installed mozgest from the phoenix help page which links to:
http://optimoz.mozdev.org/gestures/mozgest_0_3_4.xpi

so, apparently 0.3.4 isn't installing correctly either. i get the same results if I go to the optimoz site and install 0.3.4.... not sure why though?
