Vista's Data Execution Prevention is killing Firefox 3

Post by Daniel0 »

I'm running Firefox 3 RC1 and I love it. There is just one problem which is annoying me... a lot. Since Beta 4 Firefox has been randomly killed by DEP. Does anyone know a solution to this? I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x86.

Which sites were you visiting when DEP kicks in?

I'm using Vista Ultimate x86 and I have no problems with DEP? I agree with Omega X, sounds like a dodgy site to me......is there any particular site that this happens with?

I've had that problem (Vista x32). I was most able to produce it on B5 at cbs.sportsline.com. Strange. Not on Rc1 .. most likely because of finals and not being on cbs.sportsline.com though! I hendrixed several vista crash logs.... but they (logs) don't seem to be very helpful. I did have ABP on.

CNN live triggers this. Here's the bug. Sportsline.com is WFM though.

CNN live video is the only thing that has caused a DEP crash for me on vista ultimate x86.

No particular site. It happens at random occasions. Also even when no tabs are open. Other times I might have left my computer unattended for something like half an hour and when I get back I find out that it has killed FF.

These are the extensions I use, if that's of any help:
Better GReader
Better Gmail 2
AdBlock Plus
Customize Google
Delicious Bookmarks
Firebug
FireGPG
Live HTTP Headers

Getting it all the time here as well using the RC1 release. It's happened while browsing the forums here and just about anywhere as it's completely and totally random.

Doesn't seem to be much different using build 1 of RC2.

Hope this gets addressed before final release. But I don't envision an RC3

EDIT:
Just got another DEP crash/shutdown after submitting this post. The only open tab, too.

Has there been any progress on this? I certainly hope for the good of firefox that 3.0 final does not get released with the DEP bug.

I seem to get the DEP crash in Vista when I hit the back button during forums browsing (such as in this forum).

I wouldn't think that any solution requiring altering Vista DEP settings would be an acceptable solution.

I am really curious about this. I've been using Firefox 3 since the alphas, and i've NEVER had a DEP warning/crash, and my DEP is set to the highest setting?

Absolutely no problems anywhere with Firefox 3 RC2 here? Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit here btw.
