How to stop animated gif's from 'playing' in the latest builds of Phoenix? I cannot find this anywhere...

Try to put this in your "user.js"

This will tell you where to find it: http://texturizer.net/phoenix/edit.html

//Animated gifs mode (normal, once, none):
user_pref("image.animation_mode", "none");

Or you can go to chrome://communicator/content/pref/pref.xul

In Privacy & Security > Images > Animated images should loop

BTW I haven´t tested for myself.

user_pref("image.animation_mode", "none"); did the trick. You're a lifesaver, since I have no warm feelings towards the creator of the animated gif ;-)
