Latest Firefox's won't run

Post by couldabeen »

I have D/L'd the zip flies from Mozilla Beast, BlueFyre, TierMann, and Lovharn, and Moox.
None of them run, They all extract OK, and the file structure is as it should be.
But they all just start an instance that shows up in the Task Manager, and no UI.
They show up with a 'running size' of about 11000K where as the version in my sig, and other recent versions show around 30000K to start.

I have tried a clean, 'bland' profile, and still no UI appears.
This has happend once before with a zipped trunk build from the Mozilla ftp site(s), and I have never resolved it.

Anyone got ideas I can try to get latest versions working again?

In 3 years of using Mozilla products, I have never had a problem to this extent.

/me scratches this old bald head and wonders what is wrong with my system.

... Back in my tech-support days, my answer would have been "reinstall Windows"
I don't think that's a very efficient solution however, so somebody might come up with a better answer =D
*edit* spelling...

Try deleting:

C:\Documents and Settings\(your name)\Application Data\Firefox
C:\Documents and Settings\(your name)\Application Data\Mozilla

And of course deleting the folder you unzipped Firefox to. Empty the recycle bin, and re-boot if you wish.

Now unzip a fresh new build and try to run it. Let us know if this works for you..

duh! It was not loading a profile and that's why it was 11000K.
If I could delete the post, I would.
And I am sleepy and tired I guess, because I kept clicking the shortcut, and it was trying to open an 'old' profile. Not the new one I had created.

Gotta wonder though, why It wouldn't load the old profile, when this new one has all the same preferences, CSS files and extensions the other one had. I did not copy over the XUL file.

I didn't have to 'reinstall Windows', or delete any of the other things. The cache and recycle bin were already cleaned out.

Any time I use a new/different build I completely delete the old profile.
