I tried downloading a few files just now off my site and it did not freeze and stop at 99%.

After using the March 20th build for a few weeks I deleted the entire profiles folder, and started out fresh today with a new profile for this build. No apparant problems whatsoever and I am even using the Safari theme by Lynchknot.

Download crash source found:

I've had this problem with downloading files.. zips/exe in
particular and phoenix errm.. firebird hanging for a few seconds
or crashing and still being resident in memory.
I am currently running Mcafee antivirus enterprise. When I disabled
the on-access scanning i downloaded everything fine. It seems there's
a problem with virus scanners being in memory and phoenix.

Let me know what virus scanners you are running.

No virus scanners running in the background (only use them on demand), yet still getting this problem with downloading. It's not just EXE and ZIP files, I had trouble with an AVI file a moment ago. Also, funnily enough, on one time, I had no problem downloading an EXE file using right-click and Save As... but that could have been a one-off.

No antivirus software running... I've got norton installed, but the only thing running in the background is for scanning email.

Could it have anything to do with Firewalls? I'm running Kerio 2.1.4.

Just now, I tried downloading with the email-scanner killed... no luck :(

The only thing I have done in the phoenix-directory is to update the main icon (chrome/icons/default/main-window.ico) and put a Flash-plugin in plugins... the profile is brand new and unmodified!

(It's late here in Sweden... I'll try without the icon and plugin tomorrow ;))

Jedbro,

Sorry to say I have done neither. I figured I would just keep posting in the daily build threads and see what happens :)

I suppose I could take a few mins and figure out how to post a bug report ...

QUESTION : Does Mozilla *install* the same way as FB? That is, can you simply unzip it into a folder and call the main executable?

Thanx for the reply,

Jedbro,

Well I decided to give m1.3 and m1.4a a try, with fascinating results :

1.3 - Works like a charm
1.4a - Does not work. Gives same behavior as FireBird 3/28+

Here's my earlier post for anyone wondering that I'm blabbing about.

It doesn't crash on connection!

Yay! The first April build that works on my WinMe system. So, this was also my first experience with smooth scrolling. Neat, but where's the rheostat control to speed it up?
Anyway, I'm relieved that after so long a time of non-working builds it is confirmed I'd done nothing to hork my system.
(But, I put it in a Phyrebyrd directory -- I still think it utterly wrong to steal the name of another fine Open Source project.)

The middle button works, not only for the tab-opening function, but also for the All-in-One Gestures extension autoscroll feature.

Confirmed that the right-click save-as download bug is still present in 0424, with a completely new set of settings and profile on a fresh install.

Confirm download bug on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030424 Mozilla Firebird/0.6, new installation directory and new profile, but with old cookies file, old formhistory file and old bookmarks file.

Right-click downloading a 441K theme file went smoothly and ended appropriately. Right-click downloading the 7.0MB file phoenix-win32-2002-11-14.zip resulted in a hang at 99%. Lost the ability to use the mouse to scroll up & down, but grabbing the toolbar with the mouse allowed scrolling. Typing on an input form in this forum was not affected, except for the crolling problem noted. Closing file did not end the app. That had to be done through Task Manager.

Not ready for benchmark status, regardless of what it says in the Help>About box.

Nice work, glad you found that.
I hate to say that it is a possibility that Firebird 0.6 will be released without this being fixed, although after moz 1.4 get's out, I'm sure they will have it fixed in the trunk which will apply to FB nightlies and future releases.

99% error

Can anyone confirm if this happens in Moz 1.4 nighlies?

I'm wondering if this is a trunk issue.

cheers
