Random link browser buster

Post by SomeGuy »

The random yahoo link at http://random.yahoo.com/bin/ryl used by the Mozilla browser buster is still not working properly so I created a script to intercept and fix the http header.

I have posted my own "browser buster" here:
http://toastytech.com/random/random.html

Or for a single random link go directly here:
http://toastytech.com/random/random.php
[edit: adjusted url]

I have been using this myself for a while now and I haven't had any problems and it doesn’t seem to take up much if any of my bandwidth since all that is sent by my site is a header. I was worried that someone might not like my site fetching information from the yahoo server but so far no one has complained.

I am making the above links available exclusively for the Mozilla community to use to help test and evangelize Mozilla. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping this doesn’t cause any problems for my site. Oh, and if I detect too many IE users accessing this I will redirect them to a "special" random site :).

If anyone want to set up a fixed browser buster themselves, here is the PHP code I used:
http://toastytech.com/random/randomcode.txt

It would really be better if yahoo would just fix their script but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

BTW, fredmv, images in your signature are not allowed, even if they do promote Firebird. :-)

Hey, sorry about that... I'll remove it right now.

The company that hosts my site apparently has been screwing with the server and has it all messed up right now.

[edit]
I think I have worked around the problem for now. Note the slight URL change above. Keeping my fingers crossed. Please test it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!
