Certain functions in swfs blocked in Firefox?

Post by dolldivine »

Hi,

I run a website where users save images from swf files onto the server. Today I got a swarm of emails from people saying this functionality has suddenly stopped working, but only in Firefox. So I tried it out.. and I found the same thing. Works in Chrome, works in IE, but won't work in Firefox. One user said it happened specifically after the last update that she installed.

You can still click links in the swfs, and new windows will open. It only seems to be affecting server-interacting code.
To see what I mean, click where it says "SAVE" in this swf:

A new window should open up, telling you to login. In Firefox, it doesn't.

Oh, and it some of the other games, the menus disappear within the swf, suggesting that it's pausing the swf.

A few weeks ago something similar happened with Chrome, where they jacked up security, and all the swf code had to be tweaked. I'm wondering if Firefox had a similar update?

If I click save I get an .IPG file ( http://www.dolldivine.com/jpegencoder.p ... Senshi.jpg ) with type text/html which displays some text about not logged in.
Is that what you see?

Yeah, that is the expected behavior. That's what I see in Chrome & IE, but in firefox nothing seems to happen.
A few other people have written me that they're having the same problem in Opera.
I realize, of course, this might not necessarily be a Firefox problem, but it'd be nice to at least rule that out, because otherwise I'm not sure where to go with this :/

I have tested with Firefox so it is not a Firefox problem.

At work it works but at home it does not work.
At home I have Flash 13, don't know which version at work.

Thanks for checking it out!
Do you know then if maybe Firefox/Opera differ from other browsers in the frequency of updating the Flash Player?
I guess that's where I should look next?

If anyone cares, I've posted about this on the Adobe Flash Player forum, and ended up finding more websites having the same issue.
The problem coincides with a recent update to the player, so I think it's highly likely that's the cause.

Thanks for the help =)

Additional info: My work system, where it works, has still Flash 11.
