How to convince the bank to support several browsers?
help?

I don't understand swedish. But i think i can access their site using Mozilla 1.3 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030310).

If would be easier if you could provide more details on when and where things go wrong.

Since there are not many swedish speakers, it would be much more helpful to the Evangelism team if you could provide the page address, what button to click, what effects are expected. It'll be even better if there are screen shots, etc.

If it is the "private banking" page, may be you can also provide your account number and password, while trying to fix the site, our poor developers can get some money to buy food. "Just kidding !!!"

I just mailed them.
The site seems to use a lot of Javascript, so you can probably get in using the UA-bar (http://uabar.mozdev.org). Be sure to change the default IE useragent it suggests and put something like this behind it "I hate you guys and I'm not actually using IE, but Mozilla with a spoofed UA", if that works. Also be sure to change it back to default after you've visited the site.

As I stated earlier, I've already tried spoofing the UA string. It doesn't work. Simply gives me an alternative error message.

I'm still mailing with these guys. They are very stupid. They don't seem to realise I do not even speak Swedish (my email adress ends with .nl and we are mailing in English).
They also haven't figured out that I'm not using Windows and the IE link they give me is worthless.

They now mailed me this number to call: +4570131604, so they would call me to check my internet options. I'm not going to do that, since they will find out I'm not Swedish then.

Maybe one of you guys could mail them too and tell them you can't use IE for some reason (I said the executable gave an error, which it actually did on my Linux comp), tell them you need to use a blind-enabled browser or that you don't run WIndows and that the link is incorrect for your OS.

you know, that number isn't even swedish, we have +46.
(it's danish, since this bank is owned by the second largest bank in northern europe (den danske bank / the danish bank)

If you don't mind, could you send me the mail you exchanged with the bank? Then I'll be able to call them.
I have sufficient knowledge of computers to fake ignorance and succeed.

If you'll send the mails, send them to this adress (randomly created to protect my real box)

Well, they already found out I'm not using Windows. I now mailed them back they should add a note to their page that they are discriminating against people that can not afford MS Windows or a Mac, with a note below that they probably only need to remove their block to make their site work for me.
If that won't work, I'll start mailing from a different adress that I'm a blind guy and that I am trying to use their service with my blind-enabled browser.
I wonder if that will be ending in a message that they're discriminating blind people....
If any of you wants to have my mails, I'll post them here.
If you start mailing them, you will probably get into my situation too anyway. Just tell them that you don't know what to do when you get ie6setup.exe and tell them it doesn't run on your PC.

Aside from anything else, it'd be a good idea to tell them that they're supporting a
browser with the worse security record of all browsers. Surely, all banking sites
require the highest possible security in a web browser, and that it's extremely
unwise to force it's customer to use the most insecure browser available!

OK, I'm stuck. Someone with an account at this bank will have continue this. Maybe you could call the number. I could also reply with your name, adress and bank account number. Here is the last mail I receved from them. You should be able to read the previous mails since they're all quoted.

That is nonsense. You actively block me from your site.
The point is that my browser would probably work perfectly with your site.
The
only problem is your bock. You should make your site so, that you can also
enter it with an unsupported browser.

I could also mail them saying I would like to continue correspondence from this adress (entering your mail adress here).

I've persued this further in person, talking to a computer admin at my local bank-office. There are technical problems beyond the block (atleast they claim there is, and I can't disprove them) phoenix (and mozilla) apparently doesn't handle compressed pages (like .../index.html.gz)
Since their pages are compressed....

As a side note, the mail-correspondance have had an effect, if only a minor one.
There are now two links to IE, one for Mac and one for PC.
Mozilla, Opera and Netsape are now listed as examples of unsupported browsers.
I'm nice

Mozilla handles compressed pages fine, so what they're telling you is bs. Here is a page about it:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/apache/gzip/
You should ask them to remove the block.
If they won't help, I'll start a 'Are you discriminating blind guys session?' ;)

That's funny, since he (the admin) acctually did unblock a local copy of the site to prove his point. (and sure enough, there was a new error-message saying the browser wasn't able to browse the site, like in 404-page error message)
If that wasn't the problem, then what? After looking at it for about 5 min that was the only thing he could come up with. If this is a non-standards-compliant site in regards of code, then I give up. I don't think they'll rewrite all that code to suite standards just because I ask them to. (to remove the block whould probably be a simple task tho, but if the site-code is borked too....)
I'm nice
