Gecko base versions & names for Mozilla-based programs

Post by Seamaiden »

This is not all inclusive. Please make additions and corrections. This is a good reference topic. (Sorry if this is not in the right forum. Hard to tell where to put it here.)

Gecko 1.7
  • Firefox 1.0 - 1.0.*
  • Thunderbird 1.0 - 1.0.*
  • Mozilla Suite 1.7
  • Netscape 8.0 - 8.1.*
  • Nvu 1.0 - 1.0
  • KompoZer 0.7 - 0.8.*
Gecko 1.8
  • Firefox 1.5 - 1.5.0.* (Deer Park)
  • Thunderbird 1.5 - 1.5.0.*
  • Sunbird 0.2
  • Mozilla Suite 1.8
  • SeaMonkey 1.0
  • Flock 0.2 - 0.7.*
Gecko 1.8.1
  • Firefox 2.0 - 2.0.0.* (Bon Echo)
  • Thunderbird 2.0 - 2.0.0.*
  • Sunbird 0.4, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8
  • SeaMonkey 1.1 - 1.1.*
  • Flock 0.8 - 1.1.*
  • Netscape 9.0a - 9.0.0.*
  • Songbird 0.2 - 0.2.5
  • eMusic DLM 4.0a1 - 4.0.0.*
  • eMusic Remote 1.0 - 1.0.0.*
Gecko 1.9
  • Firefox 3.0 (Gran Paradiso - official alpha release)
  • Firefox trunk 3.0a8 and higher (Minefield - nightly builds)
  • Thunderbird 3.0 (nightly builds)
  • Sunbird 0.3 - 0.3.1, 0.6
  • SeaMonkey 2.0a1 (SuiteRunner)
  • Songbird 0.3 - 0.4

What was Firefox 1.0 called? Feel free to add previous versions not listed above for any of these applications. No idea where Firebird and Phoenix (Firefox and Thunderbird predecessors) fit in the Gecko system. Also not sure where the Gecko versions break for Minefield.

If anyone knows what the various Flock versions were called, let me know. Flock builds are always named after birds. I don't know any before Flock 0.7. Flock developer builds are called Sulfur.

Flock 0.7 - Cardinal
Flock 0.8 - Sulfur Cormorant
Flock 0.9 - Cormorant
Flock 1.0 - Falcon
Flock 1.1 -

Thanks ... We do get a few 'Why is it called Minefield or Gran Paradiso' Type posts.... Nice to have a definitive guide. Good work :)

Gran Paradiso is for Firefox 3
Minefield is for Firefox <i>Trunk</i>, not Firefox 3

What was Firefox 1.0 called?

Firefox. There was no real distinction between Releases and Nightly's before 1.0 was released. The 0.9 version Security Updates were somewhat intermixed with the work (Nightly's) that was being done on the next release - 1.0. The whole Trunk > Branch > Release concept was refined around that time.

The DeerPark, BonEcho, Minefield/GranParadiso naming scheme for Trunk/Branch Builds was instituted after Firefox 1.0 was released.

Uh, no. Phoenix was the original name of the browser prior to being renamed to Firebird and then to Firefox.

Now, if you want to get picky, you could say that Firefox 1.0 was called Aviary as it was on the Aviary branch anyway.

Then I guess the maintainers of http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox ... p-1.0.html and http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/roadmap.html were wrong. Seamaiden was asking for the codename and not the name of the browser at the time.

As said by pal-moz, it is the Trunk itself that has the codename of Minefield as once Firefox 3.0 is released the Trunk will still be Minefield.

Code names of each release From Phoenix 0.1 - 0.5 to Firebird 0.6/6.1/0.7/0.7.1 to Firefox 0.8 - Present.
0.1 Pescadero
0.2 Santa Cruz
0.3 Lucia
0.4 Oceano
0.5 Naples
0.6 Glendale
0.6.1 Glendale
0.7 Indio
0.7.1 Three Kings (Mac only release)
0.8 Royal Oak
0.9 One Tree Hill
1.0PR Greenlane
1.0 Phoenix
1.0.1 Rose & Crown
1.1a1 Deer Park Alpha 1
1.1a2 Deer Park Alpha 2
1.4 Firefox 1.5 Beta 1
1.4.1 Firefox 1.5 Beta 2
1.5 Deer Park
2.0 Bon Echo
3.0 Gran Paradiso

And the Gecko rv for each releases up to Firefox 1.0.8 are ..I think.
Phoenix 0.1 (Gecko 1.2b)
Phoenix 0.2 (Gecko 1.2b)
Phoenix 0.3 (Gecko 1.2b)
Phoenix 0.4 (Gecko 1.2b)
Phoenix 0.5 (Gecko 1.3a)

James,

Where did you come up with that list? (and don't tell me that you would have to shoot me if you revealed the source - LOL)

Interesting, I was unaware that 1.0 was actually carrying Phoenix as its codename. You learn something new every day I guess.

Thanks for the replies. Is anything in my original post incorrect? If so, please tell me what so I can fix it.

Still hoping someone can fill in the blanks for Flock. Feel free to add versions of other apps to the list also.

The user agents at SillyDog was a quick source for the Gecko rv versions of the releases.
