Looking for an add-on to highlight text in received mails

Hello,

I'm looking for a TB add-on which makes it possible to manually hightlight certain text passages in received mails in my inbox. I don't want to mark/highlight the whole mail in the inbox overview, I actually want to highlight important text parts I have to remember.

Does anyone know if such an add-on exists?
Unfortunately I couldn't find one so far.

The Keyword Highlighter add-on sounds like exactly what you want. However, it never supported later than version 31 and had compatibility problems with some other add-ons such as TB Conversations.

The Header tools lite add-on was an easy way to edit an existing message. If it was already a HTML message you could highlight text by changing the text color and/or setting it to bold etc. Unfortunately the author of that add-on doesn't want to rewrite it to support version 68. So you'd have to stick with TB 60.9.1 to use it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Highlighting_in_messages

The Highlighter add-on seems designed just to highlight text when composing a message.

Another possibility would be to use the XNote++ or Quicknote-T add-on to create persistent sticky notes that get associated with the message.

Keyword Highlighter only highlights predefined keywords. Thanks for the idea but not excactly what I'm looking for.

XNote++ and Quicknote-T are likewise not the same.

I'm curious if you can highlight keywords with the new API.

I guess eventually it might be possible to do this via content scripts.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean. I guess you're just asking in generell.
In my case, I don't want to highlight certain predefined keywords. What I would like is to have the possibility to highlight certain sentences or whole paragraphs in an incoming mail so that I don't have to read the whole mail again when I'm looking for information.

Understood, but at this time functionality to accomplish that is not available in current versions of Thunderbird.

If you don't want to use a notes or clipping add-on you need to somehow edit the message since you want the highlighting to be saved for later use. Thunderbird tends to have features to help you find/identify specific messages (tags, flags, message filters, custom views etc.), or to search for specific content in a message, not to persistently high lite specific portions of a message. Using the Header tools lite add-on with version 60.9.1 is probably the best workaround available as that add-on makes it easy to edit an existing message. Whether it meets your needs is another story.
