Not a question, but, hopefully an answer, to save people like me, who was pulling their hair out, trying to set up an AT&T email account on my Thunderbird email client.

I tried all kinds of settings, POP3, IMAP, etc. All kinds of ports 995, 465, 993, etc.

It didn't matter. What worked for me, was obtaining a secure mail key from AT&T. Then, using the key as your AT&T password where it ask for your password in setting up an email account in Thunderbird.

It sure would be nice, if someone working on the Thunderbird project, would have added it in the instructions.

From AT&T web site:
Non-OAuth compatible email apps

Outlook 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019
Mozilla Thunderbird
Windows Mail on personal computers running Windows 8 or older
Apple Mail/Mac Mail on macOS 10.10/Yosemite or older

At least in inbound POP account setup TB offers OAuth but not for outbound in SMTP settings.
Why that may be is an enigma, to me at least.

Does anybody please have a link to a correct description why?

And does anybody have any idea on how to get AT&T POP and IMAP accounts to work including SMTP? And where is the description/documentation??

EVERYBODY wants to push TB out of existence it appears. Mozilla as well?

TIA
Eike
