Is this a POP or a IMAP account?
If you manage to hide the inbox folder where do you expect to get new mail?

If you explain the problem you're trying to solve perhaps I can give a better answer.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox for how to re-configure your account to use the accounts folders rather than the inbox in local folders. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Local_Folders for how to hide local folders using the mailtweak add-on if you're really sure you don't need it. I suggest you don't hide it, just keep it minimized in the folder pane and ignore it.
