Yahoo Mail Problem

2 ideas:
A) check your yahoo mail inbox with a web browser, and verify that there are messages for Tbird to retrieve.
B) Go through the YahooPOPS! configuration options one by one. They are fairly straightforward to my eye, the only one that gave me pause was the security options. Set it to MD5 _only_ as I mentioned before. When I first started using the utility, I had it set only for HTTPS, because I had heard of that and I had not heard of MD5. That was when I didn't get either of the return statusbar messages. The YP homepage has forums like this that I also find useful from time to time.
I'm using version 0.6 of YP! on winXP with Tbird 0.7.3.

Hi Stefano, yeah I'm sure...I haven't paid for anything, and I have my yahoo email coming into Thunderbird no problems.
What you have to do is sign up for the Yahoo Delivers "service" which sends you ads, offers etc in return for the chance to use POP3 and/or forwarding. You can subscribe here: <A HREF="http://subscribe.yahoo.com/deliver?">http://subscribe.yahoo.com/deliver?</A> You can set what you want to receive offers about, and whether to get it 1-3 times a week, or just once a week. You can also choose to receive the emails in text-only format - advisable as it prevents dodgy tracking gifs. It's worth following the link to the privacy policy, which explains what they'll do with your personal info, and links to info on how they use web beacons for marketing - you can follow a link to quickly and easily opt-out so they don't web beacon you.
Once you've signed up for Yahoo Delivers, you'll get a screen asking whether you want to use the POP3 capability. Choose to do so, and then it gives you the details of the yahoo pop server to put into your Thunderbird server settings. They have tutorials for exactly how to set up some email clients. Thunderbird isn't one of them, but its fairly straightforward.

Thank you!
That did it! I had something funky in the server user ID box too. Somehow, I must have copied and pasted something because it had the ID twice.
I had checked with IE (dread!) and there were messages in the inbox so I knew something was wrong.
This is great everyone!

Hey Stefano. No...don't pay! If you are already subscribed to Yahoo Delivers, just go to Mail Options at the right handside of your mail box, then click "POP and forwarding status". Then you'll get to a page with a radio button you can click for accessing POP, and then you'll get the necessary server details.

Yeah; I'm having the same problem. I have other e-mail addresses and am really digging Thunderbird, but the Yahoo POP thing is really giving me a headache.

Wow, big bummer. Maybe, as you suggested, they treat former paying customers differently. Or else...which country are you in? Cuz I am in the UK and although I tried to get a yahoo.com address I was given yahoo.co.uk. Maybe this POP option is only available to UK customers. That would explain the existence of YahooPOPs for US folks.

Geez...here is the proof that Yahoo is better for UK customers! I thought I'd try the same link as I posted above, but with uk changed for US ie: <A HREF="http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-02.html">http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-02.html</A> And guess what...it tells you that you need to pay to use POP! US folks, Yahoo is diddling you! Move to sunny Britain.
Thanks jbyronr. Yes, I downloaded YahooPOPS! and Mr. Postman and neither of them seemed to do the trick. Tried to use YoSucker, but it wouldn't even download. And no, I'm not planning to pay Yahoo for anything!
I finally got mine to work through YahooPOPS. If you're going through the same thing I was, it's actually pretty simple: when you configure the Thunderbird account and it asks for username, just put in "username" instead of "username@yahoo.com." As soon as I did that, all was well.
If that doesn't work, reply to this and I'll try to remember what else I did.

Hey stefano. Sorry I don't have a program that'll do screenshots (know of any freeware/shareware for that?) but I think my posts and links above about the different US and UK Yahoo Delivers policies covers it. Sorry to have raised false hopes...until you said you weren't seeing the same thing, I didn't think there would be any difference between countries. I see your email address is in an Italian domain...and guess what, the Italian version of Yahoo Delivers gives free POP access! See here <A HREF="http://help.yahoo.com/help/it/mail/pop/pop-02.html">http://help.yahoo.com/help/it/mail/pop/pop-02.html</A>. But your interesting photography website tells me that you live in NYC...so no yahoo.it for you I guess. Bummer. Maybe you could get a friend in Italy to set up a Yahoo.it address for you, then use pop.mail.yahoo.it in your incoming server settings. That way you should be able to get free POP and access it in the US (I think you just have to be in Italy to set-up the account).
