I think I have a vaguely unusual problem - I am surprised it's unusual, but I have to conclude that it is as I can't find any help or similar situations on the internet after quite a long time searching.

I have a Macbook Pro.
I have a .pst file on my mac containing old emails from Outlook that I wish to Open in Thunderbird.
I therefore need to convert this .pst file into an mbox file so that it can be 'understood' by Thunderbird. Or else I need plugin for Thunderbird. I have that latest version at time of writing (version 2)

Can someone give me advice on how to do this?

There are plenty of forums giving advice on what to do if you still have your old Windows PC/Microsoft Outlook with the .pst files on it. As you can see, my situation is a bit different and I can't find anything to help me so I thought I would post here.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_.pst_files , especially the OSX utilities section.

This unfortunately does not answer my problem. It seems there are only solutions provided if you still have a windows pc with Outlook availaible. If you think there is something I might have missed, please do let me know but I have read it fairly carefully and it doesn't seem to chime with my problem. Any other ideas?!

That is one of the problems with vendor-lock in.

It had mentioned how to import a .pst file using a trial version of Entourage though that would have only let you migrate .pst files from Microsoft Outlook 2001.

I did some more searching and updated http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_.pst_files . I think your best bet is to try the free demo of Emailchemy at
http://www.weirdkid.com/products/emailchemy/index.html and if it works consider buying a version for $29.50 to avoid it masking subject and sender fields. It does not require Outlook, however its documentation doesn't make clear what versions of "Outlook for Windows" it supports.

I found it by searching for ways to import .pst files on both the Microsoft and the Entourage web sites.
