Thunderbird 2.0.0.21

Post by b.line »

I recently changed over the Thunderbird...NICE JOB!

Having a little problem with opening attachments. I getting a dialogue box prompting Nero to open but the program is beyond it's trial date. When I try to browse I don't get to anything recognizable.

I am using XP and just want to re-set the default attachment programs so I can open .wmv and .gif files. No real luck with help for T-Bird, mostly Firefox and SeaMonkey stuff.

A URL would be more than enough...a discussion revered.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Dan,

Me again...I read the article, quite good but not stupid proof.

I select Tools ---> Options;
to the “Download Actions” dialogue box;
I choose “View and Edit Actions”;
and browse for applications from the “Open Attachment” dialogue box;
I select “Program Files” folder; choose Firefox.exe (for example) to open a .wmv file (for example);
but the “OK” button remains grayed out back at the “Open Attachment” box.

I don't know which applications open what or which .exe files to choose from within the application.

Nero lives in the “Common Files” folder so I'm thinking I may need to download a plug-in or helper application for photos (.jpg/.tif /.gif / etc), movies (.mpeg /.wmv /etc).

I apparently have become so Microsoft dependent I am lost but I am determined to regain control of my files and digital destiny,

Sorry for the pain...thanks for the help.

Firefox would not be the tool for video files. For those you could use a utility such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime player, or a similar option.
For photos (JPG) you might have software that came with a camera, like Canon's ZoomBrowser EX. Alternatively, something like Ifranview is a freeware utility to view many image file types (jpg, tif, gif, etc.)

Ifranview can also handle video (and audio).

Thanks, Freee!!. I've never used it for that and didn't recall that feature.

You're welcome. I just try to open unknown file types in IrfanView and a lot of the times it works. Irfan Skiljan is really good.
