Yesterday lunchtime the Thunderbird (3.1.2) program on my desktop suddenly stopped retrieving or sending mail. though the browsers worked fine. Today I've done clean de-instals, re-instals, de-instals etc etc - but now, when I click on the Thunderbird icon (whether from the desktop or by going into the main disk file, Thunderbird won't even come up. I hadn't made any changes to settings etc and everything works fine on my laptop.
What is happening??? If anybody could help, I'd be really grateful.
Best, Tim

PS: I should have added that I disabled my firewall but that didn't make any difference...

Thunderbird and Firefox are two totally separate programs. Although both are from Mozilla they are not linked in their operation, so the fact that the browser works is not relevant to the status of the email client.
Have you confirmed that Thunderbird is not running by reviewing the Processes list of the Windows Task Manager?

No - but now I'm finding that Chrome and IE are not working either. I know this has something to do with Ports, but my knowledge there ends... Thanks if you can help any more.

Why do you think it has something to do with ports? Are you seeing error messages referring to ports?
What's happening when you try to launch Chrome or IE?

Nothing - that's the problem! Firefox opens up a little sluggishly, but there's no reaction from the others. Maybe I'm wrong about Ports: I've never quite understood what they are and that they do. The struggle goes on...

Install and run these programs, one at a time, to scan your system for malware, something to suspect anytime multiple applications are unable to launch or access the Internet.
