[Solved] Mailmerge old accounts to new account

Post by Foxbat1951 »

While browsing into the profiles folder I discovered old email that I need to keep in the new account.
So I need to move all messages sent and received by the old account to the new one. As the name of my previous account has been deleted long time ago, I do not have a trace on the Thunderbird.
The last chance is to save each folder on a Libreoffice Writer...
Thanks!

You should be able to exit Thunderbird, traverse to the folders in Windows Explorer and move them into your new profile. There is good information here --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb.

If I have misunderstood your question, please let me know.

Be careful not to simply copy the files from one profile into the new to avoid overwriting the newer files with the old. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... hunderbird

You may also have to import the messages from those old files into the new. See this article -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders

I did not follow your instructions as I use Linux. Windows XP is only used for my scanner HP, as Xsane does not guarantee the same resolution as the HP software for Windows.
Thanks anyway, I have a new problem that is posted at the bottom.

To avoid any troubles with my previous email, sent through the older ISP, I copied and saved them using Libreoffice Writer, as they are dated 2014 and 2013, and I keep them for archive purpose only.
Once I copied my all old emails, I removed the references for the previous ISP "Alice" but it seems that there was some reference in that profile that blocks my email connection.
When I receive an email with a Internet connection in it, Firefox does not open up. Any email received does not connect with Firefox.
Any idea where I can spot the trouble?
Thanks!

When you click on a link in Thunderbird it sends a call to the operating system to launch the default browser. When the OS does not "remember" what application is to be the default, nothing happens, just as you have seen. See this link to set the default browser -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser

The same instructions apply no matter your operating system.
