Tbird "default" search engines

Post by toadisland »

I can't find this referenced anywhere else. I see that I have a list of internet search engines available in Tbird, but it looks like everything (even dumb stuff like twitter) can be selected, but not Google, the "gold standard". Questions: (1) Why not Google? and (2) Why would anyone want to do a search from a mail program? (3) Is this just more bloatware?

Actually, Google can be a search engines available to be set as the default. As to why someone might search from an email program, it might be convenient when an unrecognized name or word is included in an email message or news feed. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/open-search

Thanks. I doodled with it and can see how/why embedded search can be useful.
Now I will try to figure out how to get google into the list that's presented, how to revise the list.

You could always install Google search for Thunderbird.

Done. Thanks. Some of those search choices seem goofy (to this old guy).
