Charset problems

I have only one question: when will the charset detection problem be fixed by default in Thunderbird. I understand that the main problem seems to be that the majority of users are English speaking and thus, not affected. In fact, most people I know here in Germany don't use Thunderbird and I suspect it to be because it does not display chars the right way and there is no straightforward way to change that.

Nevertheless, there is a simple solution which requires to make a few adjustments, one being in the Config Editor, the other in Folder Settings.

I don't understand why after all these years I still have to do these adjustments by myself after searching for the corresponding Forum post. This really is a major problem that keeps many people from enjoying Thunderbird.

Are you installing the English language version of Thunderbird or the German language version?
