Advice needed on transferring Thunderbird profile to new sys

Post by tomdkat »

So, I'm "upgrading" my PC and am planning on transferring my Thunderbird profile from my old machine, running Ubuntu 15.04 64-bit and Thunderbird 38, to a new machine, running Ubuntu 17.10.1 64-bit and Thunderbird 52. I do have a number of extensions in Thunderbird I would like to keep, as well as a few calendars setup in Lightning. One calendar is local and two others are Google Calendars.

My current plan is to move the contents of my current Thunderbird profile directory to the Thunderbird profile directory on the new system.

Does anyone know of any "gotchas" that might be involved with the differences in Thunderbird versions?

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

Thanks for the links! I was actually considering tanstaafl's approach of creating a new profile, by running Thunderbird 52 on the new machine, not filling out the data, and simply replacing the contents of the generated profile directory with the contents of the profile directory on my current system.

My main concern is migrating from Thunderbird 38 (old system) to Thunderbird 52 (new system) by simply replacing the profile contents. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Peace...
