TB2 and TLS1.2 / image loading

Post by marleb »

Hi,

Still using 2.0.0.24 here and not planning to upgrade, I can't update something I've been used to for so long.

A site I am receiving html emails from (discogs) has dropped support for TLS1.0 and 1.1. Whenever I receive an email and TB tried to load the image, I get a "Thunderbird can't connect securely to s.discogs.com because the site uses a security protocol which isn't enabled." popup alert. I can click on OK but I need to do it 5 times before it disappears (I guess because there are 5 images being loaded).

Is there a way to either:

- enable TLS1.2 in 2.0.0.24? (I suppose not)
- disable the alert popup window?
- have Thunderbird discard trying to load images from a given host?

EDIT: last question is a duplicate of this: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3040230 - sorry about that. still interested if there is another solution though

thanks!

Have you considered installing version 3.1.20 and using a older version of the TB2 classic theme that supports that version? That will introduce some changes, but should be familiar. I'd backup your profile first if you want to try that, and use custom setup to install 3.1.20 in a different directory.

From http://kb.mozillazine.org/Update_an_obs ... hunderbird

"Global search and Tools -> Account Settings -> Synchronization & Storage were added in Thunderbird 3.0. Both have background processes that can use a lot of disk space and make Thunderbird unresponsive until they're done. See Minimize the size of a profile if you want to disable these features.

Thunderbird 3.0 added a new account wizard that attempts to lookup or figure out all of the information needed to create an account given your email address and password. If your email provider didn't register that information in the remote database or provide their own configuration server you need to use the Manual Config button (lower left corner of second screen).

Auto-complete now uses both the main email address and an additional address. You can't control which one it should suggest first, other than by using that address more often. Eventually that changes the sorting.

Thunderbird 3.1 added a optional Quick Filter search bar so that searching the current folder is no longer combined with global searches in the main toolbar. However, there were conflicting keyboard shortcuts for searches. Thunderbird 8.0 remapped the search keyboard shortcuts.

Thunderbird 3.1 changed the terminology for server security settings. There is no need to change your settings."
