I was doing some research on the "leave messages on server" setting in Thunderbird to find out how this setting behaves when filters are run on the inbox. I found this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3027540&p=14733648&hilit=leave+messages#p14733648

and DanRaisch pretty much answered my overall question. My current question is:

Will the "mail.pop3.deleteFromServerOnMove" setting work for a message that's routed to a folder via message filter? When an inbound message is routed to a folder, I would want it deleted from the mail server, *after* {n} number of days. I'm using POP3 mail access and I have "leave messages on server" configured, with "at most {n} days" configured.

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

When an inbound message is routed to a folder, I would want it deleted from the mail server, *after* {n} number of days.

That would have to be a separate, manually triggered filter. Because TB's filters only run automatically against messages newly received to the Inbox folder, any messages moved to some other folder upon receipt would not be dealt with automatically after [n] days, regardless of which folder it was moved to.
