POP3 or IMAP
I currently use POP3 on a single device. I am considering using IMAP. I only have 2 GB of included storage on my server. There is added cost for additional 10 GB segments. How can I tell how much PC storage I am currently using for saved email on my computer and can I assume server space would be about the same?

With a IMAP account right click on the inbox folder in the folder pane, select properties, and then the quota tab. Most, but not all, IMAP accounts report the maximum size of the storage you can use on the mail server, plus how much you are currently using.
You aren't forced to keep all of the messages in remote folders. If you run short of space on the IMAP server you could archive some of the old messages to folders in the "Local Folders" account, and free up space. You could also archive them to a free Gmail IMAP account (15.7GB storage available).

Out of curiosity what email provider are you using? 10GB segments seems unusual.

$2 a month ($1 first year) for 2 GB then you can pay for 10 GB segments for $3 a month.

The tip also works in POP messages: Select Properties, then "General Information" (1st tab).tanstaafl wrote:With a IMAP account right click on the inbox folder in the folder pane, select properties, and then the quota tab. Under the name and location, you will see the message count as well as the disk space occupied. The information cannot be translated 100% to the space that will be occupied on your server, but adding the disk space used by all folders should give you a decent idea.
