Thunderbird does not release on specific scheduled dates, because they ship when code is ready and tested.

The July 9 date was for the desktop Firefox 68.0 Release (and also for Android).

A reply from later duplicate thread. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3052279

https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thund ... easenotes/ is the release notes for beta 5. Notice "Add-on support: Restartless add-ons and non-restartless legacy add-ons using XUL overlays are only supported if add-on authors have adapted them" and "Theme support: Thunderbird no longer supports so-called lightweight themes. Therefore none of the themes offered at addons.thunderbird.net currently work. Lightweight themes will be converted to WebExtension themes, but this conversion has NOT happened yet. It has happened at addons.mozilla.org. Workaround: Manually install from addons.mozilla.org by dragging the link or .xpi file into the Add-ons Manager."

As things stand it seems version 68.0 has a problem with the built-in spellchecker not working as it should. See Jorg K's post here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1565919

I would suspect it likely it won't be released until (at minimum) that bug is fixed. At the end of the day Thunderbird is all about writing and text entry so it would seem to me to be sensible to not release a version until such times as this can be managed well with a spell checker. I'm just guessing of course but I wouldn't want them releasing it with such a basic fault.

Do you recommend to update immediately (from 60.8), or wait for 68.1? For a not so sophisticated user that depends on it for business. (BTW, 60.8 and 68.0 is pretty confusing, I thought I had the latter, while I have the former...) Thanks.

I would recommend waiting for 68.1 in six weeks or whenever it is released.

I'm pretty sure the developers plan a 68.9.0 soon.
