Is Thunderbird a good idea for use on a touchscreen device?

Post by aajax »

I've been using TB for a long time and have been very pleased with it. However, I'm now trying to setup a tablet that runs on Windows 10. This means it needs work (?just as) well when there is no keyboard or mouse. Based on my own past experience with TB and things I'm just learning about touchscreen devices I would NOT bet much money on that being the case.

Possibly there is some reference information somewhere about TB and applicable differences between a traditional PC and these new devices. How about it?

Of course I'd also be interested in first hand knowledge from anyone who might have experience with touchscreen devices.

Thunderbird doesn't explicitly support a touch screen, you're forced to use the touch screen as if it was a mouse. My experience with tablets is how well that works depends a lot upon what application you're using (not due to any application support, but due to work style). You might find enabling view -> layout -> message pane makes it easier to navigate when reading new messages as it lets you focus on clicking on the next message to read and/or the delete button in the main toolbar. If you're sticking with version 60.* (rather than upgrading to 68) adding more toolbar buttons using the add-on at https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... ns/?src=ss might also be useful as it lets you minimize the number of mouse movements.
