If not needed by the user can these features be removed or made inoperative?

Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

The calendar can be disabled in 68.7.0 using the Add-ons Manager. There is a remove option which I don't want to try right now.
The beta and daily with the integrated calendar can be disabled by selecting the Home calendar in the Calendar list of the Calendar tab.
Right-click on it and select Properties.
Remove the check mark from "Switch this calendar on".

Re: Calendar and Tasks (Linux)
@WaltS48 - 68.7.0 - Add-ons manager indicates a disable. Both Tasks and Calendar are removed from the Toolbar.
Didn't see a remove but this is sufficient.
Using the other method the calendar and Task are still there.
Thanks
