What version of Thunderbird?
In the Compose window under the Options menu, is "Spellcheck as you type" selected?
a window comes up about spellinm
What is the exact text in that window?

How do you put screen shots on here,
my version is 68.8.1 32bit,
in the Compose window under Options there is faint tick in 'Spellcheck as you type'
but it does not.

Just be sure to remove any/all personal info. & reduce it/them to around 600 x 500 or so.

Try this one? > http://postimages.org/

Using "postimages.org",
0/. Upload your image.
1/. Select > from the "Do not resize" drop down, 640 x 480.
2/. No expiration. (Leave as default or as you require.
3/. Choose > Images to upload.
3a/. After the image/s have been uploaded.
4/. Select > Hot Link for Forum.
5/. Paste that link in your forum thread.

Using the same menu path as above (Tools->Options->Composition-Spelling) see if "Check spelling before sending" is checked.
What language is identified in that Spelling dialogue?

Try unchecking the "Check spelling before sending".
