Post by sabretooth04 »

Had to reload Windows and need to download version 78.4.3 English please.

I have used MozBackup so I'm hoping this will have saved everything.

Please let me know.

The backup file created by MozBackup is just a ZIP file with a different file extension. You can rename the file and open it with WinZip or some other unzip utility to see what it contains. If MozBackup failed to include message files and user settings in the backup file, you may not be able to recover any additional data. When you reloaded Windows, did you have it save user data or do a complete wipe and install?

BTW, MozBackup is no longer being maintained and there have been other reports of problems with the utility.

Understand. I did a RESET of the PC which re-installs the OS and leaves a Windows.old directory. Is there a way to get the data from that directory? And yes I did save user data.

You should be able to use Windows explorer to look into that Windows.old directory and just copy out the Thunderbird profile data. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

I have found that file in the Windows.old directory. I assume I should close TB and copy that to the TB directory under Windows right? I will first rename that one on the Windows directory to .old, right?

Well I tried the above and it came back with a message that the TB profile could not be found.

It's rather simple to use the manual back up process described here -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
Alternatively there are free backup utilities that run under Windows and allow the selection of specific folders or even directory trees. For examples, see https://www.lifewire.com/free-backup-so ... ls-2617964

Release, not ESR.

from https://www.thunderbird.net/organizations/
Unlike the Mozilla Firefox ESR, Thunderbird does not provide a separate ESR release. This is because the regular Thunderbird release is already an ESR release. It remains stable and on that major version for approximately one year. Only Thunderbird Beta follows the more frequent major version releases.
Basically Releases that happen to be done in ESR fashion.

Well this is wrong. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup mentions to use Mozbackup.
Third party profile backup software...

Recommended: If you're a Windows user and want a simple way to back up and restore profiles, it's recommended that you use the MozBackup program. MozBackup is a profile backup utility for Mozilla Suite, Firefox, and Thunderbird. This eliminates the need to find where your profile is stored, and it has options to back up just part of the profile. Its also a very convenient way to migrate a profile to another computer (or restore a profile on a reformatted boot disk).

From what is said this Mozbackup has not been updated in years. Why is it still mentioned on this link???
