Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
More operational advises please:
When we received both incoming messages and sent outgoing messages, there are attachments to these messages which we wish to achieve.
But we wish to just achieve these messages without attachments. How can we remove the attachments to these messages.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
Dan, can you tell us how to add incoming junk email addresses to junk email address lists? Also, how can we add some unwanted incmoning email to junk email list. By the way, where is the global junk email address list anyway? Thank you.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
There is no "global junk email list". Thunderbird uses it's regular address books as WHITE lists, identifying any emails from addresses found in those address book as "Not Junk".
See this for information on Thunderbird's management of Junk messages -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls
To help Thunderbird learn which messages you identify as junk, highlight the message in the message list pane and press the J key, press the same key after opening the message to viewing the contents.how to add incoming junk email addresses to junk email address lists?

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
Please help us how best to backup messages saved at inbox, draft, sent and archives folders. I assume each account must have their own backup storages? Thank you for your help.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
You can backup by account but if all accounts are stored on a single profile you could backup that entire profile. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup
Please disregard references to a utility called MozBackup in that article as that software is no longer maintained or supported and may be problematic if used to backup a profile created using a recent version of Thunderbird.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
Dan, thank you for your response.
When several of us trying to follow this knowledge base documents, we all could not unplug our head from the mist. Obviously, it was written for multiple software such as firefox, Mozilla Suite, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird. We could follow as far as Option - (could not find Advanced, but end up using General) - Network & Disk Space - [x] compact all folders when it will save over 20MB in total. Nowhere tell us where are messages are stored and require backup.
So, in manually backup, but do not know where we should copy Thunderbird message folder to backup location. We guess this Thunderbird folder is in C:\users\master\APPDATA\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\q0duasj8.default-release\
And then, we are loss. Manually, should we copy and backup the "Mail" folder?

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
The Mail child directory in the profile only has downloaded mail for POP accounts and "Local Folders". Dan's suggestion was to backup the entire profile (which also includes your settings, address books, encrypted passwords etc.).
Help -> troubleshooting information -> Open will open Windows Explorer at the currently used profile. There are two Open buttons, use the one next to "profile folder", not "update history".
The ImportExportTools NG add-on https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/th ... ttools-ng/ can do scheduled backups (or a backup when you press a button). The main downside is it doesn't stored them as a compressed file (.zip).

Yes, that is the location of the profile folder.
No, backup the entire profile folder to ensure that all user data (messages, address books, revised settings, etc) is all included in the backup process.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
OK. I understand what you are saying to backup the entire profile folder.
When we were using Microsoft Office Outlook, we backup the outlook.pst file every week. Then, we burn in DVD-R disc for permanent record.
We just wish to do that same to backup only the message files. So that we can go back and retreieve old previous messages if needed, say, few years down the road.
Thank you.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
The add-on has a checkbox to let you specify whether you want to backup "all mail files" or "all profile files".
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Synchronizing ... _computers recommends a couple of file synchronization tools if you want to backup your mail directory that way.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Archiving_your_e-mail suggests several ways to archive mail such as Mbox2xml

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
Thank you.
We read and re-read this "Archiving your email" in MozillaZine, multiple times and by most of us in this office. Sorry, we are not experts and could not understand it.
We now know what we need to do. We want to perform either weekly or monthly backup of the Archives folders and burnt into DVD discs. Then, we removed the messages in the Archives folder.
So our question is, how to locate this Archives. Can you tell us where exactly? Thank you.

Re: Can Thunderbird receieve and send multiple gmail account
The archives folder tree is specified in the accounts copies&folders settings. You could archive messages and then export them using the ImportExportTools NG add-on (using tools -> importexporttools ng -> export folders with subfolders (with structure) for example).
Could you elaborate on what made the archiving KB article hard to understand so that I could try to improve it? For example, was the problem that it assumed you knew certain things such as how messages are normally stored or .... ?
