Didn't know where to post this, let's call it guide, but here it is.
So I had a lot of emails from relatives, and some of them are old photos from vacations. I needed to get them all. It was not straightforward so I am sharing the steps:
1. I used the Google Takeout to get all my emails. Wait a while, download the 9 GB.
2. I installed Thunderbird. Added the "Attachment extractor". I also used my gmail but then i removed it (it got stuck, i guess it can't handle it)
also changed settings so that there is no sync going on.
3. I made a symbolic link to the Local folders (C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\...\Mail\Local Folders). Then restarted Thunderbird and voila, it works. Just select some of them, right click and select extract.
Hope someone found this useful.
