Thunderbird folder repair makes a mess of things

Post by danll »

I am struck that the Repair Folder option under Properties may well repair a folder, but it also changes your presets for it. The message prefs are changed and, somewhat bizarrely, it insists on making you sort by threads. Why in the world should folder repair change all the presets???

Default sorting by threads is an innovation of v102, and only a mass protest against this option could force MZLA Corporation to bring back the old default type of sorting.

I submitted a bug report - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1780593 (Repair Folder modifies folder specific preferences)

Thank you. It just seems odd that a "repair" would take the trouble to reset a lot of presets.

I suspect "repair folder" is essentially calling the code that is used to generate a *.msf file when one didn't exist. In that case there are no existing preferences to preserve, so using defaults makes sense.
