Problems with Thunderbird, slow response time, password

Post by SEstaff »

I'm pretty new to Thunderbird and these forums, so I apologize if there is a topic on this already, however I did look through a couple of pages in search of one.

I'm using an SMTP server on a POP3 account and my email seems to be dragging hellishly even after compacting all of the folders and deleting the MSF files (which rebuild anyways once TB is re-opened).

Is anyone else experincing problems like this with their Thunderbird program or is there anything I can try to speed up the works?

Thanks in advance to any and all who try to assist on this matter.

-> Which version of Thunderbird?
-> What operating system?
-> Do you have any extensions installed?
-> Do you use a theme other than the default?
-> Is your mail service from an ISP, corporate e-mail system or Web-based?
-> Do you keep a large number of messages in your Inbox or Sent folder?
-> Can you be a bit more specific than "dragging hellishly?"

I'm using Thunderbird version 1.0.6 and my OS is Windows 2000. I don't have any extensions installed and no other theme beside the default.

The mail service we use is Stafford.net.

There are about 600 mesages in the inbox, 29 of which are un-read.

What I meant by dragging is that (for example) when I go to delete a message (regardless of size) it will take a good minute to delete and remove itself from my screen.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thank you!

Can you try moving the messages in your Inbox to another folder to see what (if any) impact that has on the problem?

Try uninstalling your anti virus.

I had this happen and I was running SBC's anti virus. I uninstalled it and I am fine again. I installed free AVG antivirus and am still running good.
