Winmail.dat...?

Post by glawrie »

Hi

I've just started using Minotaur, having been using Outlook for ages previously. Apologies if this is a dim question. I my mail now comes via an IMAP server (Notes / Domino), but some still comes via POP3.

Some time ago I moved a whole load of messages from my POP inbox to an IMAP folder by moving the files across within Outlook. The messages arrived on the IMAP server OK, and are still fully accessible from within Outlook. However when I try and look at the same messages using Minotaur, I can see the message text, but all the message attachments have disappeared, replaced with a file icon labelled "Winmail.dat". Not very helpful.

Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? Or will I always have to view those messages using Outlook?

Any answers, suggestions etc. gratefully received!

That's really annoying - I was hoping that I could use my IMAP account to migrate my *.pst files to a format more useful than *.pst (and more accessible). To get only half way there and to find Bad Bill still messing things up is very frustrating!

I guess what I need now is to find a utility that can migrate *.pst to a format that can then be moved to IMAP in a way that Thunderbird etc. can actually see the attachments.

I did have a go with a program called 'Outlook 2 mac' which can migrate *.pst to mbox format, but it messes up the mail headers (everything appears to have been sent by the same person on same day) - not much good really (but perhaps I'm just using it wrongly...). Anyone know of suitable candidates for migrating away from *.pst? I am sure it is well trodden ground...?

Migrating *.PST folders

Post by glawrie »

Hi

I've found a way - it is very long winded but does the job.

1 The latest version of Outlook2Mac (www.littlemachines.com) can read and save a *.pst file as an mbox file.

2 Import the mbox file into Apple's OS X mail client (probably possible via other mail systems - but couldn't find a way to do this in Thunderbird).

3 Move resulting imported messages to IMAP from the Apple client.

4 Read IMAP messages using Thunderbird.

5 Go get a beer and relax...

I'm sure there is a PC only version of this... (but what?)

Regards
