Updated schedule for 3.0 RC1:
  • Code freeze* Friday, November 6, 23:59 PST (tomorrow!)
  • Build starts Monday, November 9

*strictly speaking, the code freeze for non-blockers went in effect November 30 as planned, blockers can still land.

... or maybe not, the blockers-to-zero goal was obviosuly not reached (I'm still counting 11 unresolved blockers at the moment). Let's see where this goes. :-k

Seems like today's update blew away the Gloda database (again)
The re-indexing process takes "hours" for me.
It also seems that there are some very serious (newly discovered) Gloda design problems.

this was expected, although not mentioned in the bug. triggered by the schema rev to 14 in http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-1.9 ... 85#l23.123

fortunately we discussed this in the wee hours. Not surprising to still be uncovering issues, as the implementation of "indexing" has been a fairly iterative process. I bet this will be a fairly quick fix for andrew, although surely more will be found to fix and improve for after 3.0 releases. It's exciting to see this feature come together.

Certainly a very useful feature, depending on your use case.
Most useful for those that have a very large email volume (or many accounts)
I'm not sure if the everyday user falls into this category.
I know a few long time users that have disabled Gloda, because they don't see a need.

I realize that a lot of # 465618 was about adding tests, but I'm holding my breath when I see a 685kB patch checked in just a few hours before the cut-off for a release candidate...

I was curious and looked - yeah, about half the patch is tests. The size of code change is indeed somewhat scary and a concern. And yet, several people have been running the draft version of the patch for about a week now, plus iiuc at least 3-4 people in the week prior. So it's landing with substantial testing behind it.

It's not a surprise that not everyone needs or want's this functionality. Heck, I barely use many features of thunderbird that other people love: tags, identities, retention policy, html compose, didn't use spellcheck and draft autosave for years (too unstable) to name a few. But hopefully people also know that the process if implementing gloda has resulted in substantial quality and test improvement deep in Thunderbird that might not have otherwise happened so quickly - eg, offline, compaction, db, and backend bits in general. Sorta like the space program having generated many technical innovations we now take for granted that might not have otherwise happened until decades later.

Looks like the master password feature has a rather major problem...it doesn't work. Typing in the password or simply canceling out of the dialog box equals the same thing. Either way I have full access to Thunderbird whether I type in my password or cancel out of the dialog box. No difference.

Today I started with a fresh profile since my original profile was around 3 years old (master password worked correctly in that one). I backed up all my pop3 account messages (didn't worry about the IMAP ones for obvious reasons) and set up all my email accounts as IMAP in the new profile and imported my backup messages into separate "Local" sub-folders. I set my usual options which included a new master password.

When I opened Thunderbird later I canceled out of the master password dialog box as I just wanted to check one the options and was able to log into all my email accounts, send and receive messages with no problem without the master password dialog box popping up as it should. The fact that I had canceled out of the master password box at the beginning should have prevented me from even clicking on one of my IMAP email accounts without first having to type in the master password in order to gain access.

This happens using a fresh profile and in Safe Mode with the latest nightly build on Windows 7 RC. It's also happening in 10/30/09 nightly build for Ubuntu 9.10 (latest update from Launchpad.net Mozilla PPA) so I'm wondering how long this has been going on.

Additional info on my previous post concerning the Master password function not working.

I set up a test profile and added a single IMAP Gmail account without my usual 2 extensions (ImportExport tools and Cute Buttons), set up a master password, shut down TB 3.0Pre, restarted, canceled out the master password dialog box. No difference seen in the problem. Canceling out of the MP box allows me full access to program.

Note: a new profile has to be used apparently before the problem shows up. If you use a profile that is old enough where the master password works correctly, the problem does not show (settings from previous versions of TB have a habit of carrying over through the upgrades, even if they no longer apply to newer versions).

It would really be good if someone else could setup TB 3Pre on a new profile and see if they can confirm this or not. My Windows 7 RC and Ubuntu 9.10 installs are fairly new, well protected and free from any virus. I can't believe that this problem is unique to my system.

The patch for #525302 has received approval, thus the wrapping-subject patch (#489609) will not be backed out again for 3.0 RC1. This will hopefully also fix some of the other issues seen with the original patch.

I have sometimes a problem, when I use the compose button. If I start writing a mail, the formatting bar is grayed out, when I'm in the text field.

Has someone seen such issue before?

Image

The issue is independent from the used theme. Never saw this before, this started a couple of days ago.

Works okay for me. The only time the formatting bar grays out is when I'm either in the "To/CC/BCC (etc)" field or the subject field. Does clicking on either of those fields when this happens and clicking back into the text field un-gray the formatting bar? I know you said it wasn't your theme but it also could be that one of the latest nightly updates ended up conflicting with your theme or perhaps one of your extensions. Best thing to do there is go back to the default theme and see what happens. If you've already done this then try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still happens. HTH

Hi to everybody! :)

I use shredder for a while and until the daily build of November, the 2nd, it worked fine. Then I was away for a couple of days and after I came back, I tried the daily build of November, the 9th. Since then I cannot send any emails, I always get the info, I should look for the account setup and correct them. But the thing is, I haven't chanced anything in the account setup. And when I change back to the old version of November, the 2nd, it works again.

Has anyone else the same problem as I have? Or does anyone know what I have to change? What has changed between the 2nd and the 9th of November? :-k

(I use shedder under Ubuntu 9.10.)

Thanks for your help. =D>

What do you mean by "in the text field" AFAIK it's always been grayed out until you position the cursor in the edit pane, and I don't see a cursor in you screenshot. :(
