I am using Thunderbird 3.0b4 under Linux-Fedora11 and Thunderbird 2.0 under XP;
I like to embed images into my email texts; however, my images from the camera are at least 3MB in size mostly close to 5MB.
I can resize the fotos in the text using the insert images tabs but the attached fotos remain in the original size. That takes years to download for the receivers and anyway my e-mail account does not allow more than 5MB per e-mail.
Will there be a new feature in the final version of Thunderbird 3.0 to resize the attached fotos? (I know how to do it with a photoeditor but I find that very uncomfortable when writing e-mails) I think that one shold have an option to limit the size of the images automatically.
use thunderbird3.0 beta3 and firefox3.5.2 under Fedora11 on Acer Aspire One; 8GB SSD; 16 GB SD in extension slot; on the SSD still 2GB free. Fedora starts in about 25sec to full operation

That's not possible yet in Thunderbird 3.0 either, but an enhancement request is pending. For the time being, the Auto Resize JPEG extension may work for you. It's compatible with 2.0, but it doesn't indicate compatibility with 3.0 yet, thus check with the author if it will work or if an updated version of the add-on is in progress.

Thank you very much for this post. I loaded the add on and it works insofar as I can now send pictures from my image processing programme and the images are by sending the e-mail automatically resized. That is under Thunderbird 2 and XP. I am not sure if it will work from my Linux PC since the add on is quoted as running under windows. So far so good.
I still believe that it would be helpful to have also under 3 a resizing option.
For the time being I am satisfied and grateful to you

You are welcome. There are some comments indicating that it doesn't run on Linux, thus it may using it's own binary for recoding the image. Unfortunately, I didn't find any contact information for the author, thus someone else may need to jump in and resolve any issues with the new 3.0 version and make it platform-independent (the Mozilla core code has JPEG and PNG encoders for all platforms, so those could be used if a separate encoder comes with that extension).

P.S.: See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Updating_add-ons for overriding the version check and how to "bump" an add-on, however at the risk to cause issues when installing an add-on on a version for which it wasn't approved by the author.
