Issue with "x-zombie" attachments and references in Shredder

Post by shreddies »

Hi all

I am using Mozilla Shredder - v3.0pre -- "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4pre) Gecko/20090922 Shredder/3.0pre" (latest build as of today).

But, when I receive e-mails that contain "x-zombie" headers (I believe these are created when attachments are removed from re'd e-mails), the "headers" gets malformed which means the attachment is not decoded properly.

A second problem is that the list of e-mails shows no subject for the e-mail yet the e-mail detail window shows the subject!

I do not know if this is a Shredder decode problem or the program sending the e-mails?

Sending clients are Outlook 11 or Lotus Notes. E-mails have generally be re'd many times.

To see my problem copy the following to a text file - create with ".eml" extension. Drag and drop into Shredder. You should be able to see an attachment called "a.7z" alongside the other 3 gif files. You will not.

You will see the subject.

And if you change the line :

Code: Select all

------=_NextPart_000_0130_01CA1795.81A94300X-Zombie: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

to :

Code: Select all

------=_NextPart_000_0130_01CA1795.81A94300
X-Zombie: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

You will see the "a.7z" attachment!

Quite simple fixes. Not sure who is the guilty party!!

Thanks

Problems with the test builds need to be discussed in the Thunderbird Builds forum. Please register and post back here. I will then move this for you.

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Should I put this up on bugzilla as a bug?

Thanks

"I believe these are created when attachments are removed from re'd e-mails)"

I don't see that for beta 4 (or the nightly builds). Thunderbird just modifies the headers of an attachment when deleting it - your X-Zombie header is above the message body and in three MIME sections. I'd assume its something added by Microsoft Office Outlook 11 (see the X-Mailer: header).

X-Mozilla-Altered: AttachmentDeleted; date="Wed Sep 30 04:32:58 2009"
