Actually, what you are seeing in tabs (moving to the next message) is what I would expect to happen.
If you wanted the tab content to follow to the new location, I think that might be considered an enhancement rather than a bug.
You might try a standalone window rather than a tab view, might work better for your use case.

Conceptually, I don't see why a message opened in a separate window should behave any differently than a message opened in a tab. If a tab is going to behave like a preview pane, I think that ought to be noted specifically somewhere then. The action to open a new tab with a message is the same as it was previously to open a message into a new separate window (double-click on the message line), seems that the resulting message view should behave similarly.

Bug 630759 - Improve attachment list XBL bindings

If anyone does their own theme or uses a third party theme, you need to look at your attachment view in the message pane and the attachment bucket in an opened message or composing a message when adding an attachment. #-o Jim's been at it again.

So I guess this would affect all themes and personas as well :

^^Not necessarily all themes. I don't know about personas. Never used them. If they make changes to those areas, they may be affected. Probably has to be checked on a case by case basis. My theme was affected.

^^If I wasn't doing my own, I would probably use CatThief's Mostly Crystal with the Silver Gradient option. Mostly Crystal is about the cleanest looking theme I've seen IMHO.

I just installed Shredder (Tb 8.0a1). What I noticed is the bar immediately above the folder pane where the arrows to move between All, Unified, etc., is no longer there. Evidently, the only way to move between these views now is by going to View>Folders...

Am I correct that this change is intentional? If so, is there an addon that either reintroduces this (or, adds a context menu to more easily enable switching between folder pane views)? Thanks.

It's just hidden, you can get it back with a simple userChrome.css hack.

Thanks. Anyone ask for adding a pref to turn it on and off?

Well, have a look at bug 647036 on how difficult it is these days to get any kind of preference setting even for the most basic features... :-(
