This one might be a lot harder to fix,
as the suggestions are replacing some C++ code with JS,
and our primary contributor for JS re-writes is on vacation.

Currently I've backed out Bug 611752 locally so that I can continue to build.

Has anyone tested Thunderbird with all of that in there? I'm afraid to try it.

You can't test it right now given that this is what got broken by the removal of that code from the Core. Meaning, it has been in there before and is just now moving under mailnews/ instead as a prerequisite to make comm-central build again. That part yet as to be rewired (which is why the commit message reads NOT PART OF DEFAULT BUILD in capital letters).

Well, if you do a fresh checkout, and import the patches from 1027241, you should be able to test.
I'm running such a build atm but don't get any s/mime signed mail.

Yeah, ok - without making your own build (i.e., in a nightly or tinderbox), I assumed.

So, is it actually included in the build already? It was my understanding that this only reintroduces the code into MailNews Core that was removed from the Gecko code, but that some work is still needed to reintegrate that (pointing to the right include files, adjusting Makefiles, etc.).

Which you'd probably need to test if the code works given that this is the part it's supposed to handle.

Yeah, that's what the progress patches in the bug are about. I applied those un-reviewed patches.
So far I don't see a "secure" icon when receiving s/mime signed mail..not good
But secure connections in mail and newsgroups seem to work ..Good

The s/mime signed stuff might be another bug that I'm not aware of, or, there will be one filed.

Actually, that's the code #611752 removed and which needs to be reintroduced in #1027241, this has nothing to do with encrypted connections using SSL/TLS as I understand it.
