your quite wrong. its oOK to use http://ftp as i have used, i suggest you ask smsmith about that, or i'll get you some links you can read viewtopic.php?p=14100479#p14100479

however an i hate saying this over an over again. using ftp://ftp is bad i can understand that

i believe JOES uses http://ftp in his OP posts.

@Arch: Well, the bigger problem I have with your post is that you still can't distinguish between a build being posted as a candidate vs. a beta being actually released. Anything on the "candidates/" or "nightly/" side is not released, thus your phrasing is misleading. These are builds intended for testing and staging before the actual release. So, please use a phrase like "tb38.0b1 Released Candidates are available for testing" and everybody will be happy.

@wsm: This has been an ongoing discussion among the moderators as well. Our reading is that "http:" links are mirrored even if pointed to ftp.mozilla.org directly (this hasn't been the case in the past when explicit mirrors had to be chosen through the bouncer). In contrast, true "ftp:" links are not mirrored and may indeed put a burden on the server. Thus, in general, no need to use the https://download.mozilla.org/?product=application-version&os=xyz&lang=ab-CD links, and those won't be available for nightly and candidate builds anyway (thus defying the purpose of pre-release testing).

Apparently true, they have changed how these links work.

Regarding candidate build, the usefulness and appropriateness of posting these is different beast. They are really only viable for a day or two. And their value is only as good as the feedback builders get during the build process and the speed with which that feedback is given - if the links are published by others and people who see them aren't giving feedback to the people driving the builds *as it happens*, then the value is near nil for the purposes of facilitiating builds. And TBH we aren't monitoring mozillazine. If people really want to help the ship process, then they need to let us know.

[edit] In short, IMO posting candidate links is counterproductive.
