There will not be a Beta7. The next release will be Rc1
Thunderbird 38 will be built from mozilla-esr38 branch THUNDERBIRD_38_VERBRANCH (which has a few additional patches landed that were not included in mozilla-esr38 default that are important for Thunderbird, but risky for Firefox). All of those additional patches have to do with the Gecko editor AFAIK

Do you know when THUNDERBIRD_38_VERBRANCH on comm-beta will eventually be merged into comm-esr38 where it belongs?

Those additional patches were denied uplift, so they will ride the train (not sure if they were tb40 or 41) hence the necessity for the special branch.

JoeS, I've deleted those duplicate posts of yours (apparently the server stalled again when submitting but posted those anyway).

I wasn't talking about the mozilla-esr38/beta discrepancies, but the special branch on comm-beta which should be handled on comm-esr38 instead (completely confusing):

Just follow the green line in https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-beta/graph/22363 8-)

Hmm..we're only about 3-weeks away from the next branch merge/release (provide TBird would continue to follow Firefox's schedule) so may be by then they will have the kinks worked out...of course then that would be mean it would be 38.1 and not 38...

Is there a place where one mind find out what it is that is broken? A 'Release Notes' type of page perhaps?

And I asked earlier just how 'safe' using this (these) betas is. Is what is now 'broken' the same thing? Or is it still safe or is it now destructive?

What is safe to you?

I use the Daily builds, daily, when the next release isn't imminent, then use and test the Beta version.

I have the most recent Release version available to me from my Linux distribution, but forget to use it when troubleshooting users problems.

I don't see any difference in safety between the release, beta or daily.

Can't help with what is broken. Nothing I use.

Safe, to me, means that is does not, normally, blow up. I use Thunderbird for my personal emails to family and friends, I also use it, normally, for my business emails because I do not like what the company provides.

The 'address in red' is one thing that I ignore and just live with but it seems that the more they fix Thunderbird the more Thunderbird is broken.

Sad that Mozilla took away their resources.

It's more like Mozilla is focusing on Firefox (and Firefox alone, along with their Firefox OS for mobile) and makes substantial changes without regard to other applications and their limited resources, thus directing a lot of manpower to catching up with those changes rather than getting some "real work" done...

The good news is that the Thunderbird 38.0.1 candidate builds are up, thus should be released within the next few days unless some serious issues are detected with those builds.
