Thunderbird 63 "Beta" build, 64 bit

Post by DN123ABC »

OK, I got a decent, working version of Thunderbird Version: 60.2.1 over at https://www.m64.info .

Now, I am wondering where I can find a 64 bit version of the version 63 "Beta" version.

Anyone?

Why doesn't Mozilla just put this out there yet? I think there is only 1 bug blocking the 64 bit version, and for "Beta", that should not even matter, right?

Thanks.

Thunderbird has not been a Mozilla product for a while now despite Mozilla being in full name.
https://blog.mozilla.org/thunderbird/20 ... ture-home/

If you really want to Test unstable Win64 Beta builds of 63.0 then https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunder ... es/63.0b1/

The Win64 builds of Thunderbird 60.0 are Not officially supported which is why they are not listed on https://www.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/all/ along with 32-bit version for Windows. The Win64 was not needed like 64-bit builds were needed for Mac and Linux.

Thunderbird changed it's build process to move it into line with the Firefox process. A side effect is a 64-bit (Win64) builds appearing in the release folders by accident since.

Win64 Releases of Thunderbird may not be officially supported until next year. So use that Win64 Thunderbird 60.0 and Beta builds at your own risk.

No one mentioned that your extensions will not work in TBird 63 beta.

I don't know how many extensions you used, or what yours do, but I survived.

Two that stopped working I have quickly learned to live without. The third extension problem was solved by using the dev version.

Good luck.

Lightning and Google Provider. These were pretty important.

I can not speak for Google Provider. I have never used it. But this 'fixed' the Lightning Calendar in Thunderbird 63.0b1 and 64.0b1.

Approximately 5-10% of users have an add-on (other than Lightning). Unfortunately there is literally no mechanism to forewarn users that their add-ons may break in a future version. This has never been possible, but now of course the current state of code makes it more of a problem.

As a next best thing, we have
* revised the beta start page to alert users to add-on issues, with a pointer to a new beta KB article - you can see this on Thunderbird startup or alt+home, or at https://start.thunderbird.net/en-US/beta/
* created a beta KB article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-beta with helpful info about add-ons
* noted add-on issues in the release notes https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thund ... easenotes/

Additional suggestions are welcome.

As of last night, updates have been enabled for version 64, so users of 60.b11 and 63.0b1 will be updated.

There is a link to a developer unreleased version of the .xpi file for the Provider for Google Calendar extension in the thread at:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... j_H42sttFg

The version linked in that thread works for me with Thunderbird 64.0b1 in arch linux (64bit) - once Thunderbird had been upgraded to 64.0b1 I installed the xpi file from the addons menu, and restarted Thunderbird. Then closed and restarted again - calendar asked me to reauthorise the google calendar at that point, and from then all worked without further issue.

I think I found the right thing. It is 64 "Beta" now:
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunder ... n64/en-US/

Can anyone confirm?

Is anyone using these? (Do they even work?)

Well, I went ahead and installed it. Odd thing is the Lightning is version 6.6, but read this:
"LightningIntegrated Calendaring & Scheduling for your Email clientMake Thunderbird or Seamonkey even more powerful with the fully integrated Lightning Calendar. Lightning allows you to organize your schedule, access remote calendars and much more. Try it today!

Lighting 4.0.5.2 for Thunderbird 38 is available here

Lightning also supports older versions of Thunderbird like 24 or 31, please see the complete version history for details."

Does anyone else find it odd that it references Thunderbird 38?

Just found this:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.c ... 489930#c25

"Hopefully we can do TB 64 beta 4 towards the end of November and find some more content.
Attachment #9013196 - Flags: approval-comm-beta? → approval-comm-beta+"

(P.S. It is the end of November.)
