Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
I don't think you can. I looked at 75.0a1 (daily build) and its not just the Lightning add-on is gone from tools -> add-ons, there aren't any sizable add-ons in the extensions directory of the profile. So it doesn't appear you can manually delete a *.xpi file behind Thunderbird's back to get rid of it.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ca ... hunderbird mentions working around a invalid installation of Lightning by resetting the extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103} setting in the config editor and then re-installing. That setting is gone. That is consistent with the 74 beta release notes stating "If you have installed Lightning, it will be automatically removed"

Do you have the Calendar tab open?plittlefield wrote:Hello All,

I just closed the tab and restarted Thunderbird 74.0b1 and the it didn't reappear.
For the Today Pane I went to View > Today Pane and removed the check mark for "Show Today Pane". Using the F11 function key has the same result.

Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
One of the threads in the Thunderbird builds forum claimed Lightning is now a system add-on (rather than a normal add-on). https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org ... ddons.html says: "The set of default system add-ons are checked into mozilla-central under ./browser/extensions. These get placed into the features directory of the application directory at build time." . I looked in the installation directory and found a features child directory but it just had

Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
In my installation directory on Linux it is in ~/Apps/thunderbird/thunderbird/distribution/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}.xpi.
In my beta installation directory all the calendar stuff appears to be in omni.ja. When I open that I see a lot of calendar files in the Components, and Modules folders. Those are the only two I investigated.

Be patient and wait for that ability in a newer version.plittlefield wrote:Hello All,

It is in the design and implementation phase. Also known as a WIP.

Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
I guess plittlefield has left the building.
I was testing the 74.0b2 release candidate earlier on Windows and Linux.
The steps to disable calendar are still not implemented.
Those steps would be to:

75.0a1 (2-29 nightly build) on Windows implemented the ability to remove the checkbox for "Switch this calendar on". After a restart it reduce the memory usage by 10MB but still loads Lightning. Big frigging deal.

The bug report implementing the ability to adapt the UI when users are not using Calendar is still a WIP.tanstaafl wrote:75.0a1 (2-29 nightly build) on Windows implemented the ability to remove the checkbox for "Switch this calendar on". I can remove the check mark for "Switch this calendar on" in 68.5.0.

Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
Lightning can now be disabled in 75.0a1 using today's build.
Process to disable:
Process to disable:
- Select the Calendar in the Calendar List
Right click and Select "Properties"
Remove the check mark for "Switch this calendar on"
Click "OK"
- The Today Pane is disabled.
The Events and Tasks menu item no longer shows in the Menu.
The Calendar tab is still open and the user needs to close the tab so it doesn't reappear on a restart.

Re: Disable Lightning integrated with 74.0b1
Probably won't see this in 74.0b3, but definitely 75.0b1.
So does this mean that the next Thunderbird release will be "broken" (68.6 = 74.0) and not fixed until the next release (68.7 = 75.0)?

No Lightning is still an extension in version 68.x.x and unless you are using a beta or daily version will remain so until 78.0 is released.David1949 wrote:Probably won't see this in 74.0b3, but definitely 75.0b1.

68.6 is not 74.0, neither is 68.7 equal to 75.0.
Version 75.0b1 may be available sometime next week.

"Lightning can now be disabled in 75.0a1 using today's build."
I updated daily and disabled Lightning. Negligible memory savings. All it really did was remove some icons on a toolbar, disable F11, and close some windows. The calendar settings are still in tools -> options and I'm still paying the high resource cost for Lightning. The only way I found to re-enable it was to use File -> new -> calendar to create a new calendar. That re-enables Lightning without requiring a restart .

In my test profile with just the default Home calendar.tanstaafl wrote:"Lightning can now be disabled in 75.0a1 using today's build."

I re-enabled Lightning by clicking the Calendar icon on the far right of the tab bar.
Then right-clicked the Home calendar. (Should be the only one a user has if they don't want to use a calendar)
Selected Properties and switched the calendar on.
The Today Pane and menu items reappeared
What icons were removed and windows closed?
