Is there a way to change back to the old theme?
In newest beta the folder pane is so ugly... Can't stand it.
It is still a WIP. I didn't like it at first but then realized it is the folder text that is important. Doesn't look like any folders I have in my desk drawer, or can find at the office supply stores though. ![]() Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5 Hey Ezh, thanks for using beta.
I can echo Walt - I didn't like it at first, for a variety of reasons. But as I've used it more I've both gotten used to it, and come to appreciate some aspects of it. It should also be noted AIUI that that it is not 100% complete, that some improvements are to come. Further, today we heard the UX developer discuss in a summit talk about the reasons for the change, and they are compelling. The talk has been recorded and will become public soon. He is asking for feedback on how to improve it. So file bugs about how you'd like to see it evolve and improve, and more importantly why, within the context of this first cut of photon iconography.
When you have easily distinguishable icons you don't need to read text, spend more time than necessary and strain your eyes. Now, with the new theme you have to constantly read, read, and read which is extremely stressful, especially for me, the user who's got four email accounts. This is the worst visual overhaul of Thunderbird for the entire time I've been using it (since the late 90s as Netscape Navigator). Please either revert to older colored icons, or allow to set folders icon theme. Stop killing the bird! Did the Gnome Foundation pay you to make Thunderbird an ugly, grayish hell? They are obsessed with making everything as obscure and difficult to understand as possible. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1637600 Now using 78.1.1 (32-bits) I experience the same feelings as described above. Only B&W! I hope there will be an add-on who corrects this rubbishness.
![]() Anybody tried selecting a folder. Right-click on it Select Properties. Click the color picker and change the color. ![]() Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5 Yes, I've changed the folder color that way using a pre-release build of 78.2 and used it for a couple of days. Not as useful as a solid colored icon. It would be easier to live with this change if I had complete control of what icons in the folder pane were colored as the colored icons for the account names are distracting.
Is there, please, a link to this talk? Is feedback still being solicited?
Here is how to color the Drafts folder using the userChrome.css file.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css Remember to set the toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets pref to true, then restart. Reference http://searchfox.org/comm-esr78/source/mail/themes/shared/mail/folderPane.css http://searchfox.org/comm-esr78/source/mail/themes/shared/mail/folderMenus.css The folderPane.css styles are for the tab and folder pane. The folderMenus.css styles are for the right click on message "Copy To" and "Move To" menus. Rabbit4, thanks for the link. I was able to find there the video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbhrssxFWzA>.
wsmwk, respectfully, I disagree with your sentiment that the reasons for the change are compelling. I felt they were insufficiently compelling for the claimed benefits to me to outweigh the very real cost to me of UI changes. Those costs are detailed in the video from 12m34s on the slide "Why the user is against it?" This might be better asked elsewhere but is A/B testing of the UI being undertaken? morat, thanks for sharing how to mitigate the changes to the folder pane UI. Ezh, ApTeM, Kostenzer, I share your dislike for this change to the folder pane UI. @morat
Thanks for your contribution. But it is a bit too ambitious for me.
Hmm, yes, tekst is important, but first I look for the Icons. Since the are all colored the same, they are more the same for me. I just don't read the text at first. I look where they are standing relative to the others. If text is so important, why there are still icons? ![]()
