@ColdFusion650
This errormessage is in the Dutch (nl) language.
It is generated by the OS, in this case Win98SE Dutch.
Translation:
. Error Starting Program
. The THUNDERBIRD.EXE file is linked to missing export USER32.DLL:UpdateLayeredWindow
TB is looking for the function UpdateLayeredWindow in the file User32.dll witch is a provided by the OS.
In Bug 330276 is some explanation.

flaxthejute: The trunk builds are for 3.0 which will be release over a year from now. By that time Win 98 will be close to 10 years old. If you haven't upgrade in that time then something is wrong, your using an microsoft non-supported os which is obsolete and legacy software which hasn't and wont get any security updates so in theroy your computer is a threat to your system and the internet.

I see your point, I really do. But I've a work PC supplied by the National Health Service, and while mine is running (which it is, beautifully), the priority in my lab is to ditch the remaining Pentium 300 PCs that we have and replace them with something that actually runs.
My situation is not unique. Over in bug 330276, a poster talks about the number of his customers that will/cannot upgrade past win98se. Anyway, nothing I say is going to affect developer decisions.
And maybe by the time it becomes critical, some rich benefactor may have donated enough to give me the luxury to replace my PCs because I want to, not because they're broke. I'll stop worrying for now...

Ooooo...
I'm using a 10 year old OS because I have to. I'd like to be cutting edge, honest.
I think I've taken up enough of this thread, but just to re-iterate. I'm not alone. Not everyone has the choice to change OS. If they have the option to choose mail client, why should they have to settle for last year's reject

Anyone seeing behavior like bug 220173 in recent branch builds? The description of the bug is "If new email comes in while reading a message in the preview pane, the message scrolls back to the start".
I just noticed it running
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060406 Thunderbird/2.0a1 ID:2006040609
