2.48 wiped out my email address book

Post by finn111 »

I loaded 2.48 over 2.46 (32bit) ] on Windows 10 64 bit and when I went to send an email I noticed that the addresses were gone. Was there a file or something that got renamed - replaced? My Inbox, Sent and Trash email are all still there. (*,)

Make sure that the file abook.mab is still in the SeaMonkey profile.
If it is, see if the same thing occurs if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Thank you for the reply.

The abook.mab is there it's only 2k and I did not see an abook.mba.old or anything like that. I tried it in safe mode with the same results. If I look at addresses, Personal address book and OE windows contact are blank and Collected addresses has about 20 addresses. They are one offs and of no importance.

Is there anyway to pull addresses from the send folder that would certainly have most if no all addresses?

This is an older extension and I can say whether it will still work with current versions of Thunderbird or SeaMonkey but take a look at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunde ... s-crawler/

You might have to use this converter before installing the extension in SeaMonkey -- http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/

I did that and when I right clicked on the Inbox the address books pop up but I don't have a To/From option So I can't select from Inbox to Personal address book. Is there a way to fix that or am I doing it wrong?

I found an update to Email address Crawler here -> https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/index-en.html#eac

You need to run the converter from here -> http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/

It works Great!!! I copied the new updated abook.mab to One Drive and I am all backed up.

I got it from here -> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1055107

I also got "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" from here -> https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/morecols-en.html You need to also run the converter on this just like Email Address Crawler - It exports the Address Book in vfc format.

EMAIL ADDRESS CRAWLER: This extension has been created by Torge Kummerow, but is not developed anymore (see A.M.O. webpage).
This is a modified version, fully working also with the most recent versions of Thunderbird.
Moreover it can search addresses also in messages body (be careful, because this function can give some false positives).
Note: from 5.1 version there is an option to add addresses even if they're already present in other addressbooks.
latest : 5.1.2 (TB - compatible 1.5 or higher)

Thank you for your help. It's all fixed now!!! Yea!!!

One last thing. How do you get them to register in the "To" field when you compose a new email? When I would type an existing email address in my address book all I needed to do was type the first couple letters and either the email address would popup or a list I could select from. Now when I type the email address that doesn't happen and the letters are all Red like it's a new address. I just sent a couple email and tried to send a second time to the same addresses and it still comes up with Red letters without a drop down list of preexisting address. Is there a way to re-register them so I don't need to go into the address book and scroll to the address and select it each time? I am very happy to have all the email addresses back but I need to have it automated like it was before.

Try disabling "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" and see if the auto-complete function resumes.

I disabled it and it is still the same. Is it a time thing? Should I delete the abook.mab file and do it again? Should I uninstall "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" delete the abook.mab file and re-do it?

Ok, That did it. Am am all good now. That you for your help. For the record I had "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" disable and then went into safe mode and they copied over and then exited and started normally and they were all there. All done now!!!
