Re: Fewer and Fewer Sites working in SM
Frank, after you used the term "modern browsers", I just went ahead and used the term "modern" to describe sites that these days are less accommodating to "non-modern browsers".
In your opinion, what are the prospects that SeaMonkey will be made to be functional with what sites are starting to do these days?
Thanks.

I don't quite know what "modern website dynamics" means, but I have noticed that a lot of newer CSS rules aren't recognized by SeaMonkey. Is there something in the browser engine preventing them from being implemented, or is it just a lack of manpower on the dev team?

Re: Fewer and Fewer Sites working in SM
I have a couple of more sites to add to the list.
The BC Covid vaccination site comes up nearly blank in seamonkey, even when "advertise firefox compatibility" is turned on.
https://www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca/s/
The scotiabank online banking site says "non compatible browser" and even though the page is displayed, any attempt to register or login appears to fail.

There is some chance it could help.

I don't know about the BC Covid Gov site, but I can speak about ScotiaBank. I currently use ScotiaBank for some banking, but I have been migrating to TD. ScotiaBank log-in issue isn't because you're using SeaMonkey. They are trying to force us to use mobile phone apps. I do get the "not the latest browser" warning, but logging in sometimes works an sometimes doesn't. Even when I try a web browser the log-in page doesn't complain about, logging in is hit and miss.Rob_S wrote:I have a couple of more sites to add to the list.

As far as I'm concerned, ScotiaBank has a mobile phone agenda and I'm not playing it. Moving over to TD where I can log in (even with SeaMonkey) when ever I wish.
Update:
Just an FYI: I've been trying ScotiaBank frequently now and it seems as though they've changed something so it's not letting me log in with SeaMonkey at all. I can still view their business pages, just can't log in to my account. Vivaldi (based on Chromium) will not work either. I can only access ScotiaBank via Firefox now. I've tried all sorts of different User Agent spoofs, but nothing is working.
My current rig: Acer Aspire One D257, ALT Linux (Sisyphus x86_64), Window Maker (0.96.0), SeaMonkey (2.53.18.2)

No problem accessing that site here using version 2.53.8. Have you tried Safe Mode?

Re: Fewer and Fewer Sites working in SM
Acronis previously disliked the default UA. Would deny access to SeaMonkey unless you switched to a Firefox only ua. This seems to have been corrected. Site now works for me too with 2.53.9b1 pre. So check your ua if you use a non standard one. Maybe they added another detection "feature".
And as a hint. Don't post "site not working" messages if you are using 2.49.5 and anything less that a halfway current 2.53.* version. 2.49 is outdated and it won't magically load sites needing later features.

Different UA strings tried, same result.
Sites and browsers should work together, not try to exclude each other. Any browser, any site, any time.

that only holds true for commonly used modern browsers like Firefox and ChromeWish You Were Here wrote:

Seamonkey, on the other hand, is a different story

Hey, SeaMonkey, aka Mozilla Suite, aka Netscape Communicator is an anomaly. It is the only kitchen sink browser left on the internet. It does everything you need and the fact that Mozilla went away from its roots to produce a standalone browser that gave away all the functions that SeaMonkey still has and ended up with 3 percent of the market kind of shows what comprises bad decision making when your competitors now own the other 97 percent and none of them can do what this original suite can do.

Web developers keep trying to fix something that ain't broken.
