Problem with mozilla - all versions

Post by Greenarmy.net »

Well... I love the browser, but the back, forward and reload buttons doesn't work! I've tried all versions but nothing works.. I can't even click on the back & forward, and the reload doesn't respond (I have to right click the tab and reload from there). Please help me.. :?

What version of Mozilla?

What OS are you using?

Did you try with a completely new profile when you went back to the older version?

I've installed 1.0 (didn't work), then 1.1 (didn't work) and now I'm using 1.2 (and... doesn't work). :(

The question still stands... Uninstalling/Reinstalling Mozilla doesn't delete a possibly corrupted profile. Try to create a new one with the Profile Manager (mozilla.exe -profilemanager) to confirm that it's no profile problem.

No problem . Copy the shortcut you're using to start Mozilla, open its properties and add the parameter "-profilemanager" to the target field so that it looks like this or similar:

"C:\Program Files\mozilla\mozilla.exe" -profilemanager

Start it, create a new profile, select it and push the "Start Mozilla" button.

Look in the Start->Programs->Mozilla menu
Create a new profile and try again. Mozilla 1.2 runs fine here in WinXP.

You first have to exit Mozilla completely, including Quick Launch (the little icon in the tray down to the right, if you're using this feature).

Thanks a million!!

Now the back/forward works just fine, but how can I bring all my passwords, bookmarks and form information to the new user?
Can I delete the default user now?

I can't promise this will work but:

In your *original* profile go to:
edit-preferences-navigator-history
Check that 'Number of pages in session history' is >>0.

50 should be the default, but it sometimes seems to get set badly on install. There's a bug on it somewhere. If this works, you don't need the new profile.

Having said all of this, if reload wasn't working either, I don't hold out much hope for this to fix the problem.

First try jgraham's suggestion with your old profile. If that doesn't work, you can experiment with gradually copying the files from the old to the new profile until it stops working again (my first guess for the files responsible for this glitch would have been XUL.mfl or history.dat).

Starting to see some progress... :D
I found that the problematic files were XUL.mfl, history.dat and prefs.js...
One problem remains, though. I caouldn't find a way to bring the passwords and forms information to the new account. If it is possible, could you help me out?

Thanks again!

* Do you know why it is not possible to sort the favorites? The sort option won't respond... (It might seem like I have many problems but this is truly the best browser I've ever tried!)
