Re: Netscape 10
Indeed. Does anyone know if anyone from the original (mid 90's) Netscape team still works on Firefox?
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

They both work for Mozilla Corporation/Mozilla Foundation but not directly with Firefox. Mitchell is Chairman and Brendan is CTO and Javascript supremo.

Shame that it's so badly broken then . . .

Internet Explorer is like really, really, very old Swiss cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Apparently the compatibility numbers are just there for show then. That's nice.

I was sorta sad when they switched the style because I liked the older one so much better. I also really liked the old M throbber with the spinning panels when it was still called Netscape Mosaic.
Patrick,
That was a good theme, as was the Mozilla beta theme: Early Blue which I still use in SM.

Ooh, I like that for a name. It won't work though. It would be mutilated into Ragnarok, Ragnark or Ragnar%C3%F6k or even Ragnaroek. Thanks world. :|

Pity. I was a fan of the Walt Simonson run on The Mighty Thor especially as one of the episode titles was Ragnarock'n'Roll!. I wasn't too keen on the BetaRay Bill character though.
Hmm. BetaRay Monkey? Nah.

No, it wouldn't. You might remember Netscape fondly from its pioneering days, but Netscape had an awful reputation during its long final years when it was dying slowly. Notorious for being slow, bloated and buggy, and for losing the whole internet when it comes to market share (85% to 0.5% usage in just a few years).
Mozilla buying the Netscape name would be like a pharmaceutical company licensing the name thalidomide for its new product. Why would you want to be associated with an awful name?

Re: Netscape 10
Unfortunately, Netscape 9 was too late to shift the market, because it was pretty awesome.... basically what Flock was modeled on.

Netscape 9 of course was based on Firefox 2.0.0.4 to 2.0.0.12 depending on version.

Which is part of why it was so awesome.

Have to agree here, I administer networks and we rely on SeaMonkey, so it can be difficult to explain to the occasional support desk what it is.
