Several months, we are told by Mozilla Foundation.
The good news is that we are already in a stage where we can view it a secured enough to use it. We're currently preparing the announcement and other stuff need to go public, so you should be hearing some news from us quite soon (within the next few weeks, maybe earlier).

Apparently I don't understand why the Mozilla organization feels compelled to rename the browser, and thereby make obsolete the Mozilla name. Many of us identify with Mozilla and with the suite, not Firefox or anything else. (Personally, I hate Firefox; the browser and the name). There is a constant undercurrent of change that makes the "Mozilla" (can I call it that?) platform difficult to adopt over the long term. You can't stop messing with something until you ruin it. There is something to be said for stability. I for one, will always call it Mozilla.

No, no... the Mozilla Foundation doesn't rename it. The edition of the Suite that will be maintained by Mozilla as the v1.7 branch will be called Mozilla 1.7.
The new version of the Suite is going to be developed by a different organisation, which isn't allowed to use the name Mozilla. Read http://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey:Home_Page

The Mozilla Foundation doesn't rename its product, nor abandon the Mozilla brand.
The story is that the Mozilla Foundation stopped further new development on the Mozilla suite, so a new group of people will take over new development of the suite. As it is a new group different from Mozilla Foundation, it needs to use a different name for the project and product.
The Mozilla name will live along as the name of the platform and the organizations behind it (Mozilla Foundation, mozilla.org) as well as the brand for products built by the Mozilla Foundation (Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla XULRunner, even Mozilla 1.7.x suite).
I reapeat, Mozilla Foundation's suite is in strict maintanance mode on the Mozilla 1.7.x branch and is not going to be renamed. The development trunk, which is under control of a new project team, is going to be renamed to reflect that it's not developed by the Mozilla Foundation but a different project now.

I waited for SEAMONKEY??
How lame is that? I hated that name since.......well.....inception, really. And now it's officially titled that? Screw it. Screw these guys, too. What was the point of all this if they never planned to leave the stupid seamonkey name behind? This was a *big* waste of time. I have better things to do than have my dick yanked by some wannabe's.
I'm gone. I'll go back to IE before I consider supporting these losers again.
